Cancer Biology Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Cancer Biology - Research Paper Example What makes it unique for biologists is the entire process that causes cancer. Researchers spent years finding out the roots of this disease and to discover the best possible remedies for curing this fatal pathology. Cancer is a challenge for even the first world countries. It is an unavoidable war opponent which seems to be standing in the way of the scientists and the afflicted people. Even President Nixon attempted a war on cancer and spent more than $ 5 billion to America’s National Cancer Institue (NCI), annually to counter this life taking disease. This is owing to the fact that the disease is life hampering and affects the quality of life of the patients affected. Professionals are now considering involving physicists in the field of exploration because they seem to have given up on the possibility of finding the exact cause of cancer. This finding of the most appropriate cause for cancer will assist in reaching to the best conclusion for the treatment modalities of canc er and it will serve to be a breakthrough in the field of medicine (Davies 2012). The mechanism of cancerous disease is very complicated since alterations of metabolism are a very common manifestation of these oncological changes in the cells. These manifestations are still not obvious and significant for benign tumors and for tumors that are not of very high grade. Cancer cells heavily rely on high glucose dosage owing to their increased energy needs and this increased energy demand aids in the detection of these cancerous cells. Based on research, tumor is detected according to its phenotype. The metabolic phenotype of this cell is monitored by the changes in the genetic structure of the cells as well as the changes that are taking place outside the cancerous cells in the normal tissues. It was deduced that the changes in the metabolism are a very significant feature of the cancer cells and they form the basis for the rapid multiplication of these cells. Cancerous signals are tran smitted to these cells which result in the cascade of duplication. The target of these biologists and researches is to find a way to slow down the metabolism of the tumor â€Å"progression† so as to enhance the treatment of cancer and produce excellent results (Cairns et al. 2011). In order to understand the complex biology of cancer, it is highly essential to recognize the â€Å"hallmarks of cancers† that help identify the traits that initiate and speed up the cancer cells to survive. These hallmarks include cellular energy metabolism through a process which results in the growth of cells, eventually taking over the normal processes that occur in the human body leading to increased operations in other adjacent cells as well and resulting in a cancerous growth. On the other hand, another hallmark that enables the cancer cells to replicate is the suppression of the immune system caused by these cells. Both these capabilities of the cancer cells speed up the cancerous gr owth in the body. Recent studies have also shown that a tumor cell is more complex than a normal healthy tissue (Hanahan & Weinberg 2011). Cancer is a growing concern for public as well. People have become superstitious about its whereabouts. But Davies and his fellow researchers have come to believe and promote that cancer is like an aging agent to which everyone conforms to at one

William Penn and the charter of privlidges Research Paper

William Penn and the charter of privlidges - Research Paper Example The move toward democracy which is found in this document and in its own antecedent frameworks -- including the important initial document known as the First Frame, which had been drawn up by Penn while he was still in England and preparing to move his group of colonists under the royal charter -- came to be a critical influence in the building of a political foundation eventually leading to the establishment of the new nation. In this brief paper, the development of the Charter of Privileges and its outlines for self-government will be reviewed in order to discuss in detail the influence that the document held for later events in the founding of the nation. A chronological approach will be taken to studying the Charter, with comments on the political and social contexts of the document and the times. First, it will be shown how the document known as First Frame led to the Charter of Privileges and following this, a discussion of the content of the Charter itself will be offered to s how how it led to the concept of democratic self-government. Penn was a member of the religious group known as the Quakers. This group held to a series of strong religious and ideological beliefs that often brought them into conflict with the political and religious authorities in England. They were convinced that their forms of religious worship, which revolved around a pacifist, silent meditation on the nature of God and man, were correct, and they were unwilling to bend to the dictates of either the English government or the their more aggressively zealous religious rivals, the Puritans. Because of the societal and religious strife that occurred in England during the civil wars of the mid-1600s, they eventually came to be persecuted for their beliefs, often being harassed to the point of being locked up (Powell, n.d.). Penn’s father had made a sizeable loan to the king before his death, and in an attempt to find a way to move his people out of England, to somewhere that th ey could practice their religion freely and openly, Penn called in the loan. He was granted a charter to establish the Pennsylvania colony and given the proprietary rule of the colony to govern as he saw fit, provided that the laws he established fell under the general legal purview of the English constitutional monarchy (Powell, n.d.). In line with both his religious convictions and his own beliefs regarding the need for self-government Penn decided that he would establish a government that moved much further toward democracy than anything that was evident in England at the time. He drew up the First Frame as a governing document to accomplish his objectives. The First Frame begins with a description of why law is needed among men. It argues that God established men as his deputies to rule the word and gave them the skills and intelligence that they needed in order to rule justly. However, it points out that a lust for power and other â€Å"transgressions† had led men to be disobedient to God’s law and therefore a need was evident for judicial administration. Such administration required the need for rules that would govern men, as well as a governor to administer the rules (Penn, 1682). But the question then arose: How should one design the government? Should rule by monarchy, aristocracy, or democracy be preferred? Penn answered with the following: I choose to solve the controversy with this small distinction, and it belongs to all three: Any government is free to the people under it (whatever be the frame) where the laws rule, and the people are a party to those laws, and more than this is tyranny, oligarchy, or

Topic paper - Essay Example Its reputation as a source of positive feelings is a motivator for people to come together to attempt a relationship as a couple. The concept of romance is inherently fascinating as it touches on various aspects of human development and psychology. Being so, numerous studies have been undertaken to demystify and understand this phenomenon. This exploratory study shall attempt to answer relatively basic and then and more complex questions pertaining to the dynamics of human romantic relationships, specifically that of heterosexual relationships – how it begins; its effects on the romantic couple; how the involved individuals perceive themselves and their partners and how romance is sustained. Scientific studies of people who are in love show that apart from the emotional responses, there are physiological effects of romance. Fisher (2004) devoted much of her career to studying the biochemical pathways of love in all its manifestations: lust, romance, attachment and the way they wax and wane. Likewise, Marazziti researched on the hormonal effects of the emotions romantic love produces. Levine, Aune & Park (2006) studied love styles, communication in romantic relationships and individuals’ preferences for romantic partners. They also researched on how romance is initiated and what people do to intensify the romantic relationship. Romance also affects one’s self-esteem, as studied by Green, Campbell & Davis (2007). These researchers indicate that when an individual is in love and knows that he is loved back by his partner, his self esteem becomes inflated. On the other hand, when the object of his affection rejects his love, then his self-esteem suffers much. Many more studies on how romance is developed and sustained are available in the literature that will be reviewed for this paper. This study will cover a wide spectrum of subject matter related to romance. It will investigate the topic holistically to

The Disciplines of Emergency Management Research Paper

The Disciplines of Emergency Management - Research Paper Example Mitigation function differs from other emergency management disciplines since it focuses on the long-term solutions rather than preparedness for hazards or short-term recovery from hazard event. The National Mitigation Framework is guided by four principles that include Resilience and Sustainability, Leadership, Locally focused implementation, Engaged partnership and Inclusiveness, and Risk-conscious culture (Haddow, Bullock & Coppola, 2013). My community has been involved in Hampton Roads Virginia Area emergency mitigation project since the community is vulnerable to hazards that threaten the lives of citizens and property in the area. The hazards cannot be eliminated and thus several actions were implemented to protect lives, property and built environment (Bumgarner, 2008). The first step was identification of threats and hazards in order to determine associated vulnerabilities and risks to the community. Some of the hazards that are present include floods, hurricanes, tropical storms, land subsidence, sea level rise. Repeated floods are common on Hampton Road Virginia area and this strains the existing federal resources and local authority resources in dealing with the disaster. Accordingly, Hampton road is used to transport hazardous materials and there has been more than 40 accidents involving transport of hazardous materials since 2000. In this case, appropriate measures should be put in place in order to reduce the possibility of spillage of hazardous materials after an accident (Jerolleman & Kiefer, 2012). Accordingly, an appropriate scientific methodology was used to determine the possibility of risk occurrence. The possibility of occurrence is high and the cost implications are high since floods and associated disasters destroy the existing road infrastructure and other related social amenities such as power lines. Class I Railroad and Teacher Essay Example for Free

Class I Railroad and Teacher Essay Any other day in school was the same, going to class going to lunch and going home that was until I saw my schedule change. I was a bit shy not knowing what to expect from my new classes and what were they going to be like. When I come into my new class I felt scared, it was like a western movie, when a cowboy walk into a bar and its dead silence nothing but eyes staring at me and not in a good way. I was put in Mr. U Jimenez classroom. After a couple of days in the class it was still harsh but it was getting better for me. It was fun on some days and that’s when I knew I was getting along with others. Eventually I caught up and was right on track. In my new class the first few things I did was stay calm, be happy and try to go along with others. The first day of my class was towards the end of the first trimester. It was crazy knowing I had to start a new trimester in a different class; it was crazy because when the teacher would send a student out with him the class will go nuts because they had â€Å"free time† and got away from class work for a couple of minutes. After a couple of days in the class it just went from a fun class to a disaster. I’m not such a fast writer and well when it came to taking notes in Mr.  U Jimenez class it wasn’t so good for me. I wrote as fast as I could but unfortunately I wasn’t fast enough. Before I could finish my notes the power point would change and both the class and I wouldn’t have a chance to finish. On the first day of class I also witnessed that the teacher called five different student parents for bad behavior. Knowing that the first day was like this I thought a lot about what the rest of the school year would be like. People feel many different ways on their first few day of class. I felt that in the first few days of being in the class were ok but then the other few days of class weren’t. I felt afraid of my teacher at first because of how strict he was. I also dislike yelling and people telling my parents bad news about me. In some occasions (not to be crazy) I wanted to strangle Mr. U Jimenez and maybe a couple of the other kids because of how annoying they are but I’m only thirteen and well I don’t want to go to jail so I decided to put up with my feelings towards that class and just do as well as I could. However my teacher does have some kind moments and rewards us with candy. The class can be fun like the poem project I did. I enjoyed doing that, we had some good times expressing urselves, getting created, and getting to know my classmates a little more in class. I felt many different reactions in class. Some days I was pretty happy in class and other times I was pretty annoyed and wanted to leave or scared. It would be fun because the teacher was cool on some days. Once in a while the class would get to play who wants to be a millionaire or some educational activity. I’d have a good time in the class joking around with my friends. On other days it’s pretty annoying because my teacher would be mean. He calls my mom in front of the whole class and it’s pretty embarrassing. When my teacher keeps us in class it’s because a student has lost one of his many pen, he wants back. When we do activities in the class and when it comes to questions I react in a shy way and stay quiet and hope he doesn’t pick me. If the class is crazy for a long time it won’t stay that way for long. I’d be kind of surprised and scared because Mr. U Jimenez yells and says shut it and sit down in our seats. Soon were back to taking fast notes and listening to lessons all over again. My reactions toward school were never really exciting anyways. My behavior has changed thorough Mr. U Jimenez class. When I came to his class my behavior hasn’t change but I had to try now and then. At first I felt scared and a bit shy so I don’t think my behavior was too bad but after a while I felt comfortable. When I started feeling comfortable in class I was a bit crazy at some points. I now I’m lazy because I don’t want to do my work or pay attention but I don’t think I’m as lazy anymore. I know I need to pass my class so I try a little harder now. When Mr. U Jimenez gets mad we all get mad, even though he is always in a grumpy mood. Sometimes when he’s mad I don’t really understand him he says things that don’t make sense; well to me that is and again he starts to call parents sometimes he does it randomly too. I know I don’t like it when he calls my mom. Neither my mom and I like my teacher’s calls but its best for her to know that I’m not doing so well in class so I can improve better and try harder, when Mr. U Jimenez calls or sends papers talk about my behavior in class nor missing assignments my mom doesn’t give me my allowance and she takes my we and my TV, my mom would just start to tell me all these things about school to do better and improve my grades. Sometimes I forget Mr. U Jimenez name and call him (fat teacher) not to be mean Mr. U Jimenez but I’m trying to behave myself. There were many things I felt when I started my new class. I had so many things going through my mind. I was thinking about how I would feel, my reactions, my behavior and what it would be like. When it was a no teacher zone the students would get pretty crazy. On some days the teacher would scary me and annoy me so I would know my reaction for the day until I got out of class. Some days were better than others like the games we play and the activities that we would do. It would be cool when we play games because for the people that won they’d get rewarded with candy. My behavior has changed in my classroom and I’ve gotten use to my class. Now all I ‘m trying to do is to pass Mr. U Jimenez class so I can go to High School and pass science or my mom will kill me and send me to summer school. If I don’t pass I can’t go to San Francisco on our Vacation Mr. U Jimenez I know that I’m not one of your best students but I’m trying my mom always keep on saying u are smart I can do anything if I just try hard and pay attention and listen like I’m with math I just don’t know it till don’t come out of me still.

Leadership Models and Competency Frameworks

Leadership Models and Competency Frameworks This assignment mainly focus on a review of leadership theory and competency frameworks based on the debate leaders are born not made.after that I have tried to relate these argument with Leadership Models and Competency Frameworks, which are currently being used in organisations. These all things will help to understand that in which qualities required of people in leadership positions and will help to improve the leadership development process. Also some private sector, some public sector are discussed and web links to the full models included where available. Introduction: Are leaders born or made? this is a long debatable question from long times ago that whether leaders are born or made. But many researchers trying to find out this question answer for decades. The decades are going on and now we know the answer. Finally it has decided that leaders are sort of born and theyre always made. Early theories mainly focused on the difference between leaders and followers but theories in now-a-days are focused on situational factors and leadership skills. Now I am going to discuss this topic through eight leadership theories, models and leadership frameworks and with comparing and contrasting the theories in below: 1. Great man theories: This theory assume that leadership capacity is inherent -and it also assume that great leaders are born, not made. These theories assume that these leaders have come when the country has needed to them. So its totally destined to leadership when needed. These theories also portray leaders as heroic, mythical. And most leaders were male in this theory. For example: Gandhi, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Eisenhower, Churchill were great leader. 2. Trait Theories: Like Great Man theories, trait theories assume that people will have inherited main qualities and traits that will help them to do their lead. It assumes that leaders must have to follow some particular behaviour which will help them to be a great leader. This theories also assume that people are born with inherited traits. Stogdill (1974) identified the following traits and skills as critical to leaders. Traits: Adaptable to situations Conceptually skilled Creative Diplomatic and tactful Fluent in speaking Knowledgeable about group task Organised (administrative ability) Persuasive Socially skilled Skills: Alert to social environment Ambitious and achievement-orientated Assertive Cooperative Decisive Dependable Dominant (desire to influence others) Energetic (high activity level) Persistent Self-confident Tolerant of stress Willing to assume responsibility Behavioral Theories: Behavioural theories assume that great leaders are made, not born. According to this theory, that great leaders are made, not born and through teaching and observation people can learn to become leaders. Furthermore, they follow that what leaders actually do. Contingency Theories: Contingency theories of leadership mainly based on some special variable which actually find out that particular style of leadership will be fitted for the environment of organization. This theory assume that there is no best leadership style which will be fitted in all situation.. Participative leadership: Organization will be developed when people are more committed to their relevant action and this action will happen on that time when company will involve all employees with their relevant goals and decision. People are less competitive and more collaborative when they are working on joint goals. When all people in company take decision together , the social commitment become higher and their commitment to decision will increase. Situational theories: Situational theories are best for taking certain types of decision making and here leaders choose their best course of action based on many situational variables . Transactional Leadership:    It assumes that people are motivated by reward and punishment. Here total system activated by a clear chain of command. It means people will agree to do a job and authority will be given by a manager. Here subordinate will do their job to get a decision of manager, they are fully responsible for that job. In case of any failure subordinate will get punishment. . Transformational Leadership : It assumes that people will follow a person who inspires them. Here a leader must have a vision and passion to achieve great thing and he or she must have to work hard through enthusiasm and full energy. Now I m going to comparing and contrasting those above theory in briefly: Great Man Theories Here leaders are exceptional people, born with innate qualities, destined to lead. Trait Theories It describes about leaders qualities Behaviourist Theories These assume that what leaders actually do rather than on their qualities. Here different patterns of behaviour are observed and categorised as styles of leadership. Situational Leadership This is an approach where leadership is very specific to the situation. It also assumes that different required leadership styles may be required in different levels in the same organization. Contingency Theory This theory find out the situational variable which best predict that which leadership style will be followed. Transactional Theory This theory mainly focuses on the relation ship between leaders and followers and here leader give the reward based on loyalty of the followers. Transformational Theory Here main concept is change and envisioning and implementing is a main thing to get better performance. For further information please visit: http://www.nhs-leaders.org NCSL Leadership Development Framework The National College for School Leadership is one of the leading organisations in relation to their awareness of the importance of distributed leadership. Recent years have seen an increasing move from the competency-based approach of the Hay McBer Model to the development of a Leadership Development Framework. The outcomes of a Think Tank report lead to 10 propositions about school leadership. School leadership must: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ be purposeful, inclusive and values driven à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ embrace the distinctive and inclusive context of the school à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ promote an active view of learning à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ be instructionally focused à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ be a function that is distributed throughout the school community à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ build capacity by developing the school as a learning community à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ be futures oriented and strategically driven à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ be developed through experiential and innovative methodologies à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ be served by a support and policy context that is coherent and implementation driven à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ be supported by a National College that leads the discourse around leadership for learning Personal Characteristics of Effective Leaders   Personality Early research on leadership sought to identify a list of personal characteristics that set effective leaders apart from other people. No single list has been found to hold true for every leader in every context. As a result leadership research moved on in a different direction focusing instead on what effective leaders do. For decades traits were largely ignored. However, despite lacking 100% generalisability, contemporary leadership scholars have recognised that personal characteristics are important to effective leadership particularly intelligence and aspects of personality such as dominance, extraversion, sociability, self-confidence, high levels of energy and resilience[8]. The concept of intelligence is expanded upon further in the next section, and a more comprehensive list of personality traits associated with effective leadership is shown below:      For those seriously interested in developing leadership, it is important to appreciate the impact of personality. Greek philosopher, Aristotle once said that we are the sum of our behaviours; excellence therefore is not an act but a habit. Personality is a key driver of our day-to-day habitual behaviours and as such can help or hinder our leadership effectiveness. Leaders should: Be aware of how their personality helps and hinders their leadership effectiveness, then Find leadership positions where their strengths are called for, then Offset their weaknesses through a combination of tapping others strengths and their own development    Intelligence Effective leaders typically have higher than average levels of intelligence specifically reasoning and memory. During World War I, the armed forces used IQ tests to select potential officers and they continue to be used as a recruitment tool in many contemporary organisations such as Microsoft. A high IQ does not make you an effective leader. Be accurately aware of themselves their emotions, tendencies, strengths and weaknesses. Use emotions to enhance thinking and decision-making. Consciously regulate emotions and moods in intelligent ways. It has been claimed that emotional intelligence is a better predictor of leadership success than IQ. More recently social intelligence, previously considered a sub-part of emotional intelligence, has been shown to be the single largest factor impacting on leadership effectiveness.   Conclusion: Leaders are Sort of Born It seems like theres only one thing that a person needs to actually be born with in order to be a leader later in life. Thats intelligence. A leader needs to be smart enough. Effective leaders arent necessarily the smartest people in the room or the company or even on the team. But they have to be smart enough to do the job theyre assigned. Whats more important is what kind of person the potential leader is when he or she becomes an adult. The person who emerges from adolescence into young adulthood has the psychological and character traits theyll demonstrate for the rest of their life. Some of those matter for leadership. By the time a person becomes an adult we can tell if they can help other people achieve results. That, after all, is what we expect leaders to do. We expect them to achieve success through a group. We expect them to help their subordinates grow and develop. By the time a person becomes an adult, we can tell if they want to achieve objectives or if they just want to go along and take it easy. We expect leaders to be responsible for achieving results. You can have a marvelous life without a results focus, but if youre going to lead successfully you have to have the drive and willingness to be measured by the results of your leadership. By the time a person becomes an adult, we can tell if they are willing to make decisions or not. Lots of people wake up every day and let the world happen to them. But leaders must be able and willing to make decisions that affect themselves and others. By the time a person becomes an adult we can tell if they have the basic qualities that we expect leaders to have. We can determine if theyre smart enough to do the job. We can tell if they are willing to help others to achieve results as a group. And we can tell if they will make decisions. Those things are essential. People who have them can learn the multiple skills it takes for them to become effective leaders. No matter how they measure up on the key essentials, no one emerges from the womb or from adolescence with all the skills in place to be an effective leader. Everybody has to learn the job. Thats why leaders are always made.

The Holy Bible is Fact, Not Fiction :: Holy Bible Essays

The Holy Bible is Fact, Not Fiction The Hebrew word used for "day" is the word yom. Every other time the word is used in the Old Testament in conjunction with a number, a literal, 24-hour period of time is being described; what we know as a day. The word is never used metaphorically in the Bible. The verses most commonly used to say that the word day in Genesis could mean more than a 24 hour period are Psalm 90:4 and 2 Peter 3, which quotes Psalm 90:4. Psalm 90:4 - For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it passes by, Or as a watch in the night. 2 Peter 3:8 - But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. Notice the phrases "are like" and "is like." The Greek word used in 2 Peter is 3:8 for that phrase is like is the word hos, a word used in a figurative comparison - the word as. We must always keep things in the proper perspective: Science is of men; the Bible is of God (2 Timothy 3:16 - "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness"). The almighty, all-powerful, omniscient, omnipresent God we worship obviously has the ability to create the world in an even shorter time; He could speak one word and it ALL would come into existence. He says in His Word that He created it in six days, why can't we let Him speak for Himself and take it at face value. God's Word is infallible, people ARE NOT. Exodus 20:11 - For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Exodus 31:16-17 - 'So the sons of Israel shall observe the Sabbath, to celebrate the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.' "It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed." If we were to assume that Creation lasted more than 6 24 hour days, the "sign" the second passage speaks of would be a pretty poor sign - a comparison between a 6000 year creation and our 7 day week wouldn't be very meaningful.

The Project that Made Me Want to Become an English Professor Essay

As I studied the faces of my classroom peers, searching frantically for another face interested in the thought-provoking discussion on escape velocity, I suddenly realized that I was temporarily engaged in an exercise in futility. My classmates were not interested, and my teacher, as a result, was beginning to falter in his explanation of the long-distance travel concepts. I realized, with something akin to horror, that the general apathy was beginning to affect me, as I had to stifle a large yawn. Now, such a thing would be routine, perhaps, at many schools around the nation. But my school prides itself on being the exception to the norm, and, more often than not, achieves its goal of attentive, involved, self-motivated students. Our project-based curriculum provides the perfect opportunity for any student who wants to do more than the endless repetition often inherent in the typical high school. At the end of each trimester we have something concrete, a portfolio or model, to show exactly how we designed our own restaurant, or organized a manned mission to Mars. "Club Mars" was the second trimester project of junior year. Hence, the review of escape velocity equations. In the first trimester, we had sent unmanned space probes to analyze the Martian environment and report the data back to Earth. Now the time had come to transport ten thousand people to the Red Planet, set up a colony, and maintain peace and harmony among the residents I liked the premise. To "set the stage" for the project, in my social studies class I was asked to define the value system of my group's utopia by ranking the importance of ten qualities that make a successful city. The list included health care, pollut... ...never succeed. People would object to the idea of a society of "smart people," though that isn't even my intention. Edutopia would work well in theory, but just as with Communism, not in practice. I remain undaunted that my dream society is unattainable. Instead, I am just happy to realize what is important in my life: education. Before I discovered that Edutopia was my idea of paradise, I had never realized that education was so important to me. After my completion of the project, I re-examined my career and life goals. I had always loved English and writing and thought I would end up in publishing. Then I considered education, and now I intend to eventually become an English professor. The "Club Mars" project changed my educational aspiration, and gave me greater knowledge of my own value system. It truly made a difference in my life. Relationship Paper

A relationship between two people can have very different meanings. In some relationships such as two lovers, they can also be best of friends because they share some characteristics and qualities and have a good understanding of each other. A relationship between a parent and child has a special bond because they share love, and affection for each other no matter what the circumstances are there will always be some connection, even at its worst times. However, there are times when a relationship can go bad because there is no understanding, lack of communication, and a feeling of distance in the relationship. This may occur from mistakes or misunderstood acts from one another. It is believed that the parent-child relationship is the most influential relationship that there is. As of right now I believe that this is the relationship I must analyze more in-depth to get a full understanding of it and to just improve my daily life with them, but in particular my mother. My mother, like m ost Hispanics in her generation, did not grow up with half of the materialistic devices and privileges that I have had when growing up. She has come from a home that was riddled of alcohol and drug abuse.Even with those distractions at home she still managed to get straight A’s, so she says, and has had a job throughout her life since the age of 16. She says if it wasn’t for marriage and having kids she would not have dropped out of college, but she was comfortable where her family was heading and had made that decision. My mother is someone to look up to in my books because of her overcoming of obstacles that had stood in front of her like it was just taking another breath of air, and for my father, I don’t even want to start on that description.I’ll just leave it at that it is a privilege that I’m even walking this planet today. I believe my mother perceives me as taking the resources I have around me for granted. That I am just going through the motion of school and life and not tackling it like she did and still does. She sees an unemployed 20 year old at a junior college that has had recent trouble with the law. I am not putting up the biggest argument against her because I know I could be doing more to be excelling further in school and being more responsible for my own actions. I don’t think she fully understands the commitment of being in ootball during school. It really is like having a job year-round that gives you a 2 month break yearly. I know she gets her perceptions on what she hears at work at the sheriff’s department, which does not help, or what she sees on the news on television. So I believe her ideas on what people my age is a little bias. To overcome these perceptions and to better our relationship I believe we can communicate with each other more than we are now. Telling her more information about what goes on and what I am doing in my life can more likely give her a better idea on who I am or who I am on track of becoming.Telling her more and more of what I am doing and disclosing my-self, I believe can make her feel more comfortable with me. By self-disclosing my-self it can give her assurance with what kind of person I am. With the way things are going between us right now I can only imagine who she thinks I am. When a mother does not know much about his son you can see as to why they can get carried away with ideas on who they might be but not who they are. However, there also might be some things that she sees about me that I don’t realize myself. Those mother-to-child instincts are still a wonder to us all. She might see something about me that whenever I am in a serious relationship I seem to be more stressed, or that i am calm with her in our conversations. My emotions on the way I converse with her tell her a lot about myself. Emotion management is essential to maintaining a healthy relationship. For example, if I failed a mid-term that day and she does not know, she cannot prepare for the negative responses, if any, to her questions and she most likely would not want to hold a conversation with me.She can start to build an idea that I am not consistent with who I am and lead up to fewer conversations to build on our relationship. However, emotion management does have its cons. For instance, if I am not happy with something she is doing and I never express anything about it the relationship for me might start to become one-sided meaning only she is happy with relational content. Sometimes giving feedback about some ones actions is the best way to maintain a relationship.Relationship maintenance between her and I is a must. If I want her to be appy with me then I have to put in my part. If I am just sitting around the house not contributing to anything or with the household how could I expect her to be happy with me. When she sees me applying myself she can have many reasons to be happy or proud with what I am doing. How can she no t be if she knows I am taking advantage of the opportunities around me? For example, if I am maintaining a 3. 0 grade point average while holding a part time job and in a year-round sport like football, she should not have reason to be upset or concerned with me.
